Kokoda Trek May 2011

At the end of last month our Director, Terry, took a group up to walk the Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea, a difficult 9 day Trek that covers 96 kilometres through the Owen Stanley Range. Here’s what some of the trekkers had to say about it.

Kokoda trek

“Terry Hewitt led a group of reasonably inexperienced Aussies on a 96km wander through some spectacular PNG forests. Terry is a thorough and reliable professional who engenders confidence to all in his charge. His depth of knowledge (historical, medical, political) ensures not only a safe journey, but a very thought provoking one.

You can hear a pin drop when Terry tells a detailed story about the WWII conflict between Aussie and Japanese troops. Thanks to ALL of THE TEAM at Adventure Out for showing us a very special piece of Australian History. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to anyone contemplating a great (real big) outdoor experience and look forward to an adventure in the Kimberley at some stage in 2012.”

“What a brilliant experience! Walking the Kokoda Trek proved a tough, challenging, rewarding and moving experience. It is in some ways ironic to walk through such a beautiful landscape whilst gaining an insight into how unbelievably tough it must have been for our Aussie soldiers to fight battles there. Terry was fantastic, full of great stories and an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Kokoda battles and our military history in general. Personal highlights were the Bonoma Cemetery and Isurava. To see so many young Australian graves at Bonoma was both tragic and inspirational. And the memorial at Isurava is amazing- breathtakingly beautiful yet wrenchingly emotional, powerful and humbling. To walk the Kokoda Trek is a truly memorable experience, it is to walk in the footsteps of heroes.”
